We hope your charter lived up to your expectations and we are eager to have your evaluation and impressions of your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

For the most part, exceptionally good, helpful and informative. A couple of the staff (men) could work on their friendliness.

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

Yes. Worked well. Had a deck leak and light burnout in port stern cabin, three slips on shower drain covers, one fall and scratch on swim ladder which has a plain nut where an acorn nut should be. All systems worked well otherwise.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

No coffee percolator, had to fire up generator to run drip machine, so all waited for captain (me) to get up.

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

Yes. No problems at all here.

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?

Yes, very good job.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

5th cruise in BVI. Love it totally. Will do it over and over until I can't.

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

Could you get Seaborne airlines to stop screwing up? Yes, we didn't die in a crash, which I'm always pleased about, but cancelled flights, few choices, rebooking mess, last minute notice, took my luggage off on return. Hassles, not fatal, but we lost our first afternoon of vacation due to this.

8. May we post this review on our website?

Yes

9. Additional comments on your charter?

VI Sailing staff friendly and helpful, once we got going. Making contact at first was a bit tough. I think some were out sailing in my BVI's instead of working. Kidding. The boat upgrade was very nice. I would use your service and Sunsail again without any hesitation. In fact, my friends/crew were talking about our next trip before we got back.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

Maybe in 6 months to a year? Different area. I was at the Tobago Keys once and had to leave due to an injury to a crew member. Have been wanting to go back ever since. But found the poverty ashore in the Grenadines more uncomfortable for visitors than elsewhere in the Caribbean. I have some negative impressions about St. Lucia, St. Viincent from other cruisers, so don't know how to make such a trip work. But it's in there, simmering in the back of my mine. My major problem with this trip to the BVI's was the overcast weather the whole time, with a few spots of sunshine. None of us control that, of course, but it's the first time in 10 trips I've seen it like this. Can we put in a sunny day guarantee next time?

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

Yes

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

One of the single berths was not clean at all, had mold growing inside. The remainder of the yacht appeared to be clean and in working order.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

Yes.

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

No.

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

The insurance options in the Booking Terms & Conditions are misleading. I was planning to select Option #2 to only find out that I had already been charged for Option #1. In addition, it doesn't appear that the security deposit was collected at our time of departure.

8. May we post this review on our website?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Captain Andrew Ollivierre was fantastic. We will consider returning, however only if we have Captain Andrew leading our next yachting vacation.

Moorings/SunSail/Footloose continues to provide great customer service. We arrived ready to board our Sunsail 39' monohull, only to find out that the boat had been damaged by the previous charterer. Sunsail upgraded us to a Moorings 42.3' monohull. The boat was brand new. Great service, and incredibly friendly people. The residents of the BVI are so warm/friendly...this is why return again and again.

We hope your charter lived up to your expectations and we are eager to have your evaluation and impressions of your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

yes

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

yes mostly. this was a fairly new boat, but all the faucets [in the heads and galley] were covered with residue and not clean. debris in the corners etc. etc.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

yes...with a fair amount of creativity. most the crew has logged a fair amount of offshore and have lived "less is more"....were hoping not to on this trip.

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

yes

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?

yes...but the heads in the 444 are poorly designed for any real use. you can barely even use the sink, as the useable space design is baffling.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

beautiful caribbean blue waters, but quite limited in places to go to and hang.

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

the VI team was great. i would suggest using these boats for some first hand knowledge.

8. May we post this review on our website?

Yes

9. Additional comments on your charter?

the boat is really like a floating motel 6......so functional but not cozy or nautical. it was january....so hot hot hot was not expected but it was unusually cold, wet and windy. a key factor was the boat should have an extra set of blankets, which, fortunately WE thought of. a cool suggestion to the local knowledge team @ sunsail would be to give an informed 3-5 [?] day weather update @ the briefing. weather blowing across the atlantic is easily monitored and some info on that would have been appropriate. the morning net is great but not enough when dicey possibilities are out there. since we are all sailors, we would pay a lil more for an upgraded "real" boat. IF ambiance matters, and it does to us, the leopard is do-able but not at all "sexy"..... or well appointed. lubing the main's track should happen on every boat more often.......ours was a real beast to raise! that environment is rough on the equipment and even though the boat was a 2014....she needed some serious coaxing as everything was super UV'd. just some thoughts. bottom line was a great time amongst lifelong friends. we are easily amused...so a brown paper bag and some scissors works for us.

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Had an issue with the autopilot on Tuesday but disabled myself (it locked the steering while underway Tuesday AM but I was able to get on a ball using the engines). Made Sunsail aware but they did not have the motor in stock so we went without autopilot for the rest of the week. House batteries would not charge on the genset (overnight). Sunsail advised that we run the engines for a while before we went to bed so they did not go below 12volts before the AM.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

I am looking at three weeks this summer. Possibly changing boats each week since there does not seem to be much incentive not to change - unless there is a 10 night special then I might change my mind, etc - do want to discuss the pros and cons with Joann. Would probably want a 444 Premier again as well as getting numbers on a Premier Plus. Also want to get some info on a 4800. June 25- July 1st (6 nights) 444 Premier July 2nd - July 8th (7 nights) 444 Premier July 9th - July 16th (7 nights) 444 Premier Plus or 4800

9. Additional comments on your charter?

This was our first bareboat charter, and things could not have gone smoother. The boat was great, and the flotilla crew was incredibly attentive and helpful. We stayed at the Green Iguana for an overnight on St Thomas to get on the ferry to Tortola the next day - it was a great place, the caretakers were very friendly. Our boat check out was with Captain Bequia, and we may never forget him, so helpful. The stops were just incredible, especially Saba Rock, Peter Island, and Marina Cay. A day trip to the Baths should definitely be included; although go early in high season. We were there for about an hour by ourselves and were ready to leave when the crowds came. We are already starting to figure out where to go next, and we will be calling VI Sailing to book us wherever it might be.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

We want it to be tomorrow, but finances will probably make us put it off till 2017.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

Yes, very. The gave us great insights into the cruising area and helped us finalize our float plan.

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

Clean yes, working condition no. One head and the knot meter did not work but we did not discover this until underway. Everything else was fine

Very

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

Yes

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

Not sure, we knew we were chartering an older boat but we did expect everything to be operational.

8. May we post this review on our website?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

All boat systems and equipment were in great shape with the the exception of the knot meter, one head and the batteries which were weak and took extra time to charge and drained quickly. Highly encourage other sailors to visit the other islands in the area rather than limiting their trip to just Anguilla and St Barth. The distances are relatively short (10-20 NM) and the winds were spectacular. Nothing like covering 50 NM in under six hours.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

yes. very nice

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

Clean - yes. Good working condition - kind of. The boat was only a year old and there were several small things that didn't quite work or were broken. Nothing to ruin the trip but we did pay a premium for a "new" boat

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

yes but we could have used a couple good sharp knives

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

The rear cabins didn't get much air but that how the boat is designed

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

Yes

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

Upon our arrival, the a/c was off (reoccurring-tripped breaker), one sink was plugged up (the maintenance person was unable to fix it the next day, so we left with it not working), and other issues. Overall the boat was worn, but in good working condition.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

Yes, however the grill was missing a grate to cool on. Luckily we opened it before we left the dock. Sunsail was able to provide this prior to our departure.

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

No

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

This was my 11th. charter to the BVI's. I have used a lot of charter companies in the BVI's, however, I would not recommend Sunsail over Moorings. For the condition of the yacht and price, stick with Moorings. Much nicer boats and there has never been a question as to what quality boat you will have. Our boat with Sunsail was shown with options that were not on our boat (not a huge issue, unless you are someone looking to eventually purchase this boat). Arriving on the dock after a long day to a hot boat was not enjoyable either. The maintenane issues should have been taken care of well ahead of our arrival. Overall we had a great experience, our dive gear showed up the next morning during our departure briefing and we provisioned the boat on our own. The diving was fantastic as were the sailing conditions. I was surprised by the number of people (as were the local ferry boat operators) for this time of year. An early start to our day made it possible for our crew to see everything we had planned. Unfortunately, Sunsail required our comment for to be filled out prior to leaving on our last day, so I was unable to express most of my concerns as I was rushed to get it done. I even asked if I could send it in via mail, which was denied by the debreifing crew. Again, I chose Sunsail through VI Sailing. VI Sailing did a great job filling my requests. I would highly recommend chartering through them again.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

We hope your charter lived up to your expectations and we are eager to have your evaluation and impressions of your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

The staff were wonderful, they have a great system and great people working there.

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

The boat was free of bugs but the heads could have been cleaner. they may have been missed on the turn around

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

The galley had everything we needed.

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

Ventilation was ggod but one of the AC units needed to be repaired costing us most of the first morning

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?

Yes! I really appreciated the checkout skipper, he was very knowledgable on the boat and systems.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

Very nice! I could go bak tomorrow!

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

VI sailing was very helpful and responsive to us and very appreciated for our first charter experience.

8. May we post this review on our website?

Yes

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Next time I would charter a newer boat. I loved the layout, space, and systems on the 2007 Leopard 464 but there were issues with water in one of the bilges and a diesel leak that also had to be repaired the first day. WE had to return to port for the fix. One of the engines also leaked so much oil that it began pumping overboard through the engine bilge pump! We used the engine minimally because the wind was great for sailing but it was an issue all week. The base manager was very responsive and worked with us to reach an accomodation. We did lose the tender on the last night and so we negotiated a very fair settlement given all the circumstances. I was glad that we spent the first night aboard so we could check all the systems thoroughly ahead of departure bu it was clear that the mechanical inspection betweeen charters was minimal.

Very friendly and professional. Really a first class operation.

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

Yes, extremely well maintained

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

Yes

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

Exceptional ventilation for fresh air (w/ fans and winds scoops) plus Air conditioning (not really needed on our trip)

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?

Pretty good job. Yacht has so many systems that it is difficult to absorb everything in 60-90 minutes.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

Yes. Only downside was stationary front resulted in high winds and a lot of overcast sky, with periodic showers. Not terrible, but not great.

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

No

8. May we post this review on our website?

Yes

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Staff at Moorings/Sunsail base was first rate. From deck hands to supervisors, everyone was friendly, helpful and professional. The Sunsail 444 was unbelievably comfortable and well equipped. Refrigerator/freezer was VERY good, maintaining ice and frozen foods throughout 10 day charter. AC generator worked great, but we hardly needed it. Same with Air conditioning. Head systems were electric flush, and worked far easier than manual flush - no problems at all. Each of the 4 cabins had separate head w/shower. Dinghy system was really convenient and easy to use. And, the big boat sailed pretty well.

9. Additional comments on your charter?

There were numerous things that did not work properly. The biggest thing was the waste holding tank. It was full within two days and would not empty. I assume it was about one half full when we left the dock on the first day. We called Sunsail and they sent a couple of great guys to fix it. They worked for about 30 minutes before they were able to empty to tank. They expressed some concern and told us to leave the value in the open position. The tank would not empty again. Whatever they dislodged resettled to block the valve. This is the last thing someone should have to deal with while on a vacation trip. There were several small things that make you wonder how closely they are checking out the boats. There were two flashlights on the boat, but neither one worked, dead batteries. We were given a plug in light to use in the cockpit. It did not work. The igniter on the stove did not work. All these thing were small but when you add all these up and the holding tank problem it added up to a big disappointment.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

Overall rating. Everything was a 5, but the issues with the holding tank drop it to a 3. We are not sure when we will take our next trip, but we will be glad to look at any specials.

The charter briefing was really good. Stafford (our briefer) custom made a perfect itinerary for us which worked out really really well. They had an excellent power point presentation with navigating instructions. I wish we could have had those slides via email or hard copy. Oyster bay is a little rough, kind of trashy, not much for showers, bathrooms or cool places to wait. It's fine for in and out but it would drive you nuts if you had to wait long around the place. I'd be tempted to charter out of marigot bay in future since the cab ride would be cheaper, provisioning is available there and it's nicer. This is not a complaint however, and we were very, very well looked after.

We hope your charter lived up to your expectations and we are eager to have your evaluation and impressions of your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

Yes, front desk personnel and all dock staff were friendly and helpful

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

Yes. Some problems with A/C on second night. Called cust srvc but they never called back. We solved it ourselves.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

yes

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

YES. A/C really made it quite comfortable. Actually chilly in the am.

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?

Since we had been there before, he touched on things lightly. Could have spend more time explaining that there were 3 not 2 water tanks and when/how to switch them over. We knew about the tank controls but it seemed to take a long time for the pump to begin drawing from the next tank. All worked out OK.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Disappointed in the Road Town Fast Ferry people. I checked their website before I left and even called their St. Thomas # to confirm that there was a 12 noon ferry from Road Town to CA. On Sat. 7/25, the lady at the dock told us No ferry at noon, we would have to go to West End for the 12:15. She didn't mention there was a Native Son ferry at 11:30 from Road Town. Made for some unnecessary anxiety.

We hope your charter lived up to your expectations and we are eager to have your evaluation and impressions of your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

Relatively neutral.

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

Yes it was very clean and everything worked. Impressed when things broke they came out and fixed it.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

yes

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

the aft cabins were a bit stuffy but not so bad

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and it's equipment?

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

8. May we post this review on our website?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

I would not mind explaining the issue further but I think VIS did have good generic advice about cruising in the area with the information that was provided but I think you could have gone into a little further depth by explaining the "insiders" guide to sailing and traveling there. For example the ferry service that we took from Tortola to STT was late coming home ("oh that always happens" was the comment from the lady at the dock) which would have been a minor deal except we missed the flight out which would have not been a big deal except it took two more days to get a flight with seats. Theses little things add up....A careful look at our schedule/itinerary by an "insider" would have been clear that the connections were not well thought out. Next the check out at the Marina was kind of impersonal and it didn't feel like Sunsail did anything special for us -- it was all being handled by the marina company which I guess was OK but it felt sort of "big corporate" for me. The guy that did the captains review was not all that knowledgable about "sailing" per se...he was sort of just going over the checklist it seemed. Nice guy but the answer to most questions was "don't worry about it"

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

We did have a great sailing experience overall -- 5 stars -- what a beautiful setting you have there. I think my family would love to come back every year if possible. Perhaps on a monohull. my cell is 480-282-0257 -- would love to talk anytime and look forward to hearing about specials.

We hope your charter lived up to your expectations and we are eager to have your evaluation and impressions of your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

Every person at the Sunsail compound was friendly, helpful, respectful, and very accommodating.

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

Very clean, well provisioned with plenty of linens and essential trashbags/toilet paper.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

Cookware and galleyware was sufficient for the 12 days we cooked and cleaned.

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

The BreezeBuster was great on the bow. However, one or two more fans down below would have helped on still evenings/nights.

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and it's equipment?

Yes, the check-out captain was very informative.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

Yes, we sailed to seven islands, including Anegada, and nailed nine for nine mooring balls!

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

Travelers should be warned the about erratic ferry schedules. While we were told the 9:45 a.m. ferry would get us to St. Thomas and through Customs in time for a 12:30 p.m. flight, the ferry was 45 minutes late and we missed our flight.

8. May we post this review on our website?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

"Samba Girl" - a 38 dual-wheel Jeaneau was a phenomenal boat for our 15 days in the BVI celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. She powered through 8-foot seas with 27 knot winds on the way back from Anegada like a champ! Great layout down below with lots of room. Excellent supplies on board with lots of linens. Dual-wheel was a treat and the chart plotter was essential The BVI sailing guide provided by VI Sailing was the latest publication and well worn when we finished the charter. We used the VI Sailing website for plenty of itinerary and provisioning ideas, as well as great reminders when traveling to the area. This is our third time to the BVI, and when we come back again the near future, we will definitely use VI Sailing! Thanks again for the great service, helpful information, and phenomenal boat! Clink!

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

We will probably charter within the next 2-5 years - usually a milestone anniversary or retirement event!

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Fridge drawer slid open when sailing and was replaced during trip by Sunsali but the new drawer did the same thing. We used cockpit cushions to jam it closed. Freezer did not work properly and bad drainage caused melting ice water to run over cabin sole requiring us to keep a towel on the cabin sole. Both heads back filled and handle in starboard head very hard to use. Sunsail tried to fix with silicon spray which we continued to use every day with no success.

Yes-very

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

Fair

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

Fair- horrible stench for first 2 days but once the holding tanks were opened out in the channel was much better

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and it's equipment?

Fair- however, they did not show us where the main breaker was placed, so when it tripped, we could not find it and had to wait for assistance-would be beneficial if some type of manual be provided

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

Loved it!

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

With the exception of the freezer issue, yes.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the adventures; can't wait to do it again.

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

If we knew in advance that we could ship a cooler of food we would have. This could have saved us time and money.

8. May we post this review on our website?

Yes

9. Additional comments on your charter?

The boat performed just as I hoped. The only complaint from the crew was that the beds were uncomfortable. With the exception of the teenagers sleep was difficult to obtain. I also appreciated the free cell phone. The VHF was hit and miss so having the phone made coordinating our return much easier. Given the price we paid I expected one or more options on water toys to be included. We paid $200 for two paddle boards that in my opinion should have been standard equipment or least an option. At least one set of waterproof handheld VHF radios should be included for when the crew takes separate excursions.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

We plan to go again this December but I think we will book it ourselves. While we had a great time and the charter lived up to our expectations the realization that I could have saved about $2k had I waited and booked it myself was a bitter pill to swallow.

8. May we post this review on our website?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

At the return debriefing I explained my two concerns, enough to make me think about other charters. You are clearly a Sunsail agent so I will repeat. This particular boat is at the end of its fleet life. Perhaps it belongs in Footloose already. The aft is well protected but odd to see panels screwed all over the stern. Underneath, damage? The mast was so creaky that sleep was impossible. After loosing sleep, I did a 2 AM configuration of sheets to silent the mast that is not well secured, at least in a NE rolling mooring field at Marina Cay. The big frustration was a broken alarm system. The fuel and battery gauges were broken and the alarm would go off repeatedly during the night. Two nights of lost sleep impact a holiday week. I called and they seemed knowledgeable of the problem but noting did more than silence it until some other random moment and unfortunately, two of the many were in the middle of the night.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

6 times now with Sunsail but I went to NANNY Cay to see some other boats. Next year, March is the probable next charter.

Sort of: I had to fill the water tanks (hadn't been filled), and the gas (found this out on day 2) in the dingy was only half full at the start.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

Absolutely

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

Yup

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and it's equipment?

Bit quick...took a bit to get the water tank valves sorted out.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

Lived it

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

Probably not (the problems we experienced...see below) were mostly mechanical and needed to be addressed on the fly

8. May we post this review on our website?

Yes

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Was plagued by problems with the bilge (4-5" of water sloshing around on day 3, bilge pump float switch crimp connectors broken so float was not working), house battery (ongoing throughout trip...they attended twice to deal with but it was never sorted out: I would sail sans instruments, as the warning buzzer would go off in the middle of the Drake, in the middle of the night...was probably a dead cell but, again this was never fully resolved--we spent sometimes 6 hrs a day running the engine to charge up the battery), and a worn out engine fan belt (went while we were making our way through the gap into Gorda Sound), and a leaky bilge (stuffing box?, or maybe a keel joint problem). I met with a manager (he had a meeting on Friday and was not able to talk to me until about 3:00 (was made aware of this at about 12:00) and the compromise that we arrived at was that he would give me a voucher for two days of our charter, toward another one. Not what I was hoping for but this was the best he could do. So gorgeous place to have a holiday that we would love to go back to, and the boat sailed well but really needed system work. As someone who has worked in the industry, I can say that much of what we struggled with (frustrating not having tools, and a spare belt around) is the sort of thing that would have been caught as part of what, in this part of the world, is part of a routine spring check and maintenance that would take at most 4 hours (1 guy). We also had some issues (order not showing up, and then being short several items) with provisioning (Riteway) but we're hoping to have this sorted out with them directly.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

Not sure...we'll go back to that part of the world for sure. But, again, the boat was not a bad boat but it needed work. Rating below reflects how what was, for the most part excellent service, was overshadowed by not being able to run more than one light at night, and then, with only the anchor light on, having the battery warning go off in the middle of the night. This was really too bad.

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Boat was pretty beat up; including safety issue problems. 1. the webbing holding the nets frayed during sailing and broke 2. mold and rust in the fresh water lines/tanks......not usable 3. Two cabin doors would not stay latched closed while under sail 4. Refrigeration door was leaking grease on the floor making it slippery, and ball bearings fell out each time it was opened. Did not keep the food cold. Freezer worked great. 5. The auto-start button on the stove worked intermittently, using matches was fine. 6. We asked when creating the provisioning list if the grill was charcoal or propane. Being told charcoal, we purchased several bags....but it was propane and not enough The boat not being properly provisioned cost us a lot of delay time: 6. Salon cushion was not on board, we asked Saturday night and again first thing Sunday morning. It took an additional 2 hours for them to find the cushion. 7. The wrong water toys also took additional time to be located and brought to the boat. 8. Food Provisioning was poor: incomplete, numerous "replacements" that were not equivalent, poor quality meat, some dairy products were 2 days from expiration date. Went to Rite-Way twice to fill-in. And again on Virgin Gorda 9. Not enough linens for 8 people and 5 beds ********Sunsail did not answer their phone while we were sailing ~Another Marina helped us repair the nets ~We purchased a lot of extra bottled water and paid to shower ashore

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

I preferred the Sunsail Leopard 444 to Moorings boats of comparable size. The forward salon was nice. The winch in the cockpit was convenient for raising the main without assistance. One exception was the absence of a conventional mainsheet traveler. I didn't care for the two mainsheet arrangement on the 444.

No, the boat was very tired and many items were either broken or simply not working. I needed to repair hinges, ladders, main table and lockers. The batteries were the most frustrating!! We ran our boat two plus hours at 1600 RPM twice daily as instructed but at least twice daily we has low battery warnings flashing on our nav panel. The engine battery was the worst as there were several occasions where it did not start the engine. On our last day the engine stopped running while under way at low speed and it took about 5 min to restart it with the moter barely turning over!! This was not relaxing or enjoyable.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

Yes

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

Yes

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and it's equipment?

The staff member only had general knowledge of the yacht. We had to learn several parts of the boat together and several aspects of the boat were not even explained.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

Yes!

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

Only to make it more clear of the age of the boat we were taking out. We would not accept a boat of this age again.

8. May we post this review on our website?

Yes

9. Additional comments on your charter?

This boat either should be retired from Sunsail or undergo significant updates. The GPS was very old and the screen was at best 6 inches with no SOG feature, the knot meter did not work, the wind meter did not work for the first 5 days. In addition the teak and overall finish of the boat was very tired.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

9. Additional comments on your charter?

Although Belize was challenging due to recent changes in Belize laws stemming from 2 charter boats damaging reefs, it was well worth the effort Possibly due to the reef damage, the chart briefing was the most extensive I have heard The Belize cruising guide is not very detailed or accurate in some areas, only as a comparison to other popular bareboat destinations in the Caribbean. As a suggestion, Sunsail should allow charters to go to Glovers Atoll and/or make it easier to hire a skipper for 1-2 days. Navigation out there was far easier than some of the sailing inside the barrier reef. One of our crew members kite boarded out there from Tobacco Caye. It was wonderful out on the Atoll especially regarding the diving, snorkeling, and fishing. Skippers apparently don't mind sleeping on the kitchenette birth for the short period We were lucky enough to get a skipper while down in Placencia thru the help of the base manager. We enjoyed the skipper so much he asked him to stay an extra few days. Giving the new laws requiring bare boats to pay for reef damage they cause, (the prices are too high based on what we heard), I would recommend boats getting a skipper if possible, as an insurance policy. If not, consider getting your own insurance to cover reef damage. The paper charts and GPS charts can not be completely relied on as they tell you in the chart briefing. The navigation is not that difficult if their is good visibility and your vigilant. We covered a lot of ground, more than most bare boats since we had a skipper on the second boat. We believe the new Belize laws for chartering will be beneficial to protecting the reefs. This is only a good thing. During our charter, we found a large fishing net that had drifted onto the reef and had caused moderate amounts of reef damage including killing 40+ groupers, 2 turtles, and numerous other species. The understaffed Belize Police Authority, Marine rangers, and our diving guide took this all very seriously. There are a couple dive shops on the Islands not mentioned in the Belize cruising guide. Also though, for most of the cruising area, you are not permitted to scuba dive without a guide. Even snorkeling is not permitted in Laughing Bird Caye without a guide. Luckily we had a skipper on the second boat, who had contacts on several Islands to find a guide.

9. Additional comments on your charter?

This was an absolutely wonderful week of sailing- no problems whatsoever. Everyone just loved it! Thanks for the help in organizing our first bareboat charter.

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

Perhaps in 2016. But I'm considering St. Vincent and the Grenadines just to see more of the Caribbean. Others of our group loved the BVI so much they'd like to return. We do not have any definite plans yet, but I'm sure we'll be discussing it later this year.

Staff on site at Sunsail was terrible. The shuttle service kept us waiting to fill up the car for over 30 minutes. Very unfriendly staff at most if not all aspects, repeated requests for help, missing equipment, provisions not arrive until after 7:00.

Would not use Sunsail again. Could not recommend Sunsail due to on site staff. Boat was great, service horrid.

few things were not working properly, most important was the batteries were not holding the charge causing the GPS to shut off and the fridge to warm up fast. we had to sail with the engine running to keep the batteries somewhat charged, charging morning and evening with the generator was not enough. no power to some electric winches, water pump leaking but we made a temporary fix. one electric toilet had a strong odor all week long no mater how may flushes and cleaner we apply. Positive note: the sails on that boat were in great shape with a big genoa, bottom paint was recent and cockpit was big enough for 4 couples.

We hope your charter lived up to your expectations and we are eager to have your evaluation and impressions of your yachting vacation. Please answer the following questions and add any comments you may have.

1. Were the staff at Sunsail friendly and accommodating?

Yes in every way, I always look forward to. Dealing with all of them

2. Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?

It was in the best condition of any charter we have ever had but then again we were the first charter, the boat had not even been named and had only a number.

3. Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?

My main complaint was the lack of sharp knifes and even though there was a knife sharpener the knifes were of such poor quality it did little to help the matter. The frying pans were two of the same size and inexpensive with handles that allowed the pans to rotate not a safe quality with hot grease on a rocking boat and not in line with the coast of the charter. We had two or three pots on board, very large larger and larger, no medium or small sauce pan. The one cork screw was of such poor quality that it broke on the first bottle of wine. In a nutshell the quality of the kitchen utensils was not in line with quality of the boat.

4. Was the boat well ventilated?

This was excellent. However why the boat came with 4 wind scoops where only 2 would ever be used i I never understood and they were in the way taking up needed storage.space.

5. Did the staff at Sunsail do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and it's equipment?

It could have been more thorough but as we have sailed for many years we were sure we could fill in what was left out ourselves and we did.

6. Did you like the area you cruised?

Yes these are the best waters we have ever sailed.

7. Could we at Virgin Island Sailing, Ltd. have helped you further in any way?

Not that I can think of

8. May we post this review on our website?

Yes

9. Additional comments on your charter?

10. It is our pleasure to keep you informed of relevant specials / updates for your next charter. When do you plan to charter next?

Most likely the same time frame next year. This boat was the most trouble free boat we have ever chartered and I'm sure it was due to its being brand new. This was the 2nd year that we went with a 1st tier line having previous ally used Footloose. Last year with Sunsail I was somewhat disappointed in the condition of the boat we had. The bottom was dirty with obvious growth, some of the running riging was in such poor condition that some shives would not even turn, the velcro on much of the seating needed replacing as the cushions would continually fall to the floor and as in all previous charters the batteries were beyond their life expectancy and failed to hold a charge. These were expected from a second tier charter but now I wonder how to gauge the level of a future charter from Sunsail if it is older than a brand new boat. I can understand an older boat showing a bit of ware but the factors I have mentioned have no excuse and do more damage to a reputation than the cost of addressing them.
